Where glazes are made - sort of a mix between a cook following recipes and a chemist with formulas. Patient explorations is required to come up with the proper color when trying to create a new glaze.
And here comes Cleo!
My apprentice potter.
Many people have inquired about cat hair in the clay. Not to worry -- any hair that happened to get into the clay would be vaporized in the kiln.
When clay is still wet, a piece is at its loveliest (wet greenware).
Glazing is the applying of the chemical combinations (formulas/recipes) that will fire to a colored glass finish....
...it can be rather messy business -- out of bounds for Cleo!
Glazed pieces go into the kiln for a 10-hour firing -- 2/3 of that at 2300 degrees F.
Cooked, cooled down, and no fishy odors!
